A quick message to all BI&DW Australia candidates and clients
BI&DW Australia turned ten toward the end of 2019 and whilst looking forward to a prosperous New Year, the business, like all others has been hit by both the bushfire economic slow down and then to outdo that, Covid-19. To say it has been a challenging time is an understatement but having started during the GFC aftermath, we know that there will be light at the end of the tunnel. After coming out of our lockdown hibernation, we do anticipate any hiring that will occur will likely to be contract and any material hiring activity will be in Q1 in the new financial year. Until that point, BI&DW Australia will be working on changes to our offerings and approach to market to address this unprecedented challenge. Watch this space for updates in the coming weeks.
Well just when we hibernating early for Xmas, the market has suddenly woken us up from our slumber and we have a range of open roles all with Professional Services companies. So if you want a new role to start 2019, let us know of your interest. Send CV’s to

UNFORTUNATELY, the Australian Federal Government has slowed work sponsorship visas to almost a halt and the current wait is over 6 months. We thus CANNOT accept overseas applicants at this time unless you have a valid working visa for Australia.
Page under construction – more an information dump for the minute!
Moving over to Australia is an exciting life changing opportunity and 457 visa sponsorship can & does lead to Permanent Residency & Citizenship. It is however a major logistical challenge especially so when you have children but I did it, so you can too!
There are things that I need to highlight as being the major points to consider:
Companies that sponsor overseas applicants are predominantly in the Professional Services sector so corporate overseas sponsorship is rare.
Relocation costs are rarely offered and if you are lucky enough to get some help, it won’t be significant. This is just part of the Australia psyche of having to pay your own way as a new immigrant/Australian
If you are moving over with a partner/spouse, they have full working rights which is hugely beneficial
The Gartner magic quadrant for BI tools does seem to directly correlate to the demand from IM, BI & DW Professional Services companies for BI consultants. It seems to be all go for Microsoft and Qlik with SAP & Microstrategy following after as the in demand tools. Funnily enough, Tableau still seems to be a slow runner in the Australian market however I anticipate this will change over the current year.
Now Australia Day has been celebrated, the dust of festivity has now settled and business is back & bustling. I have never known a busier start to a New Year and the roles I currently have active are as follows:
Datawarehouse Design Lead, Professional Services (PS), Permanent, Sydney
MS BI Principal/State Lead, PS, Perm, Sydney

Interesting to see what the shifts will be in 2016. Importantly for Australia my view is that Qlikview, Microstrategy and Tableau will gain even greater market traction whilst Microsoft just keeps on expanding its reach. SAP Business Objects, Oracle OBIEE and IBM Cognos are the big talking points. SAP BO justs seems to keep going in huge SAP legacy accounts whilst IBM Cognos with it’s new release is facing a make or break year as I have not recently seen much of an impression within the market from Cognos. All I hear is OBIEE is clunky and not making friends and influencing people.
